Kings Cross Pavilion
Designed as the winning competition proposal for Central Saint Martins, the King's Cross Monument transformed surplus construction components from the ongoing redevelopment of King's Cross into a temporary public pavilion. Conceived as a reusable framework, the project demonstrated how the material by-products of urban development could be reassembled into civic infrastructure with a renewed public purpose. The structure accommodated a changing programme of performances, exhibitions, talks and community events, allowing the monument to evolve through occupation over time. Its open steel frame established a flexible architectural system capable of supporting multiple configurations while remaining legible as a single intervention. Elements could be dismantled, relocated and reconfigured, extending the life of the project beyond a single installation and reducing the demand for new materials. Positioned within one of London's largest regeneration projects, the pavilion explored adaptive reuse at an urban scale, treating construction waste as an architectural resource. The project proposed monumentality not as permanence, but as an evolving framework whose identity emerged through continual adaptation, public participation and repeated use.
